Pet Goats: 8 Things You Need to Know (thriftyhomesteader.com) This link is very helpful information (all in one place) from the well-known breeder, Deborah Niemann, owner of the Antiquity Oaks Herd. It was one of her Nigerian Dwarf does, ANTIQUITY OAKS COCO CHANEL, that was the grand dam of one of "Big White Pines Dairy Goats" foundation does, THE SWEET N SASSY SIENNA. Deborah Niemann, is also the author of the popular book, "Raising Goats Naturally, the complete guide to milk, meat and more" which I highly recommend.

"Big White Pine Dairy Goats" is located in the northern panhandle of Idaho. We are a little less than an hour drive north of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Although I have high quality stock, I try to keep the prices very reasonable for you. Our purebred ADGA Eligible 2024 kids are $125 - $250 depending on individual attributes. (wethers will be $50 or possibly less if purchased with breeding goats as a companion). Our purebred and ADGA Registered Yearling Breeding Bucks are offered this year for $125 - $166 . Prices may be negotiable for multiple purchases. A 50% deposit will hold your kids of choice until pre-arranged date of pick up.
BWPDG does not provide a delivery service, but can recommend one that we have used in the past. (Please note, delivery charges can run higher than the purchase price of your goat.)
Short answer... no. A goat needs a companion which "speaks the same language." A lone goat will not thrive. They may even become ornery trying to break through fences and wandering the neighborhood, looking for some goat companionship. Consider getting a (castrated male) low maintenance wether goat to keep your beloved goat company.
We no longer routinely vaccinate our goats. A few years ago, we tried vaccinating our new kids with CDT, mainly to prevent a potential Tetanus infection after disbudding or castrating them. We disliked the vaccine. In fact we disliked it so much, we soon changed our castrating method from "banding" to using a Burdizzo tool which eliminated that possibility. We're also careful to protect the kids' skull area, after disbudding horn buds, with a special spray on medication which greatly reduces the chances of any infection. The "CD" part of the vaccine helps prevent the dangers caused by overeating disease. Our goats don't have access to the large, lush, green, Spring grass pastures often associated with overeating problems. If you will be raising your goat in such an area, you may want to consider consulting your Vet about the need for the CDT vaccine.
***Big White Pines Herd Testing Policy***
I do not regularly test my goats. They all came to me via private owners/farms I've known and trusted. Most have been tested prior to arriving here. (NO SALE BARN LIVESTOCK FOR ME) Regularly testing my entire herd of goats now is cost prohibitive for me. That said, should you find a "Big White Pines Goat" you are seriously interested in and would like it tested, I am able to draw the blood sample for you and you are welcome to send it to the lab of your choice for testing (CL, CAE, Johnes). Your goat would be "on hold" here until you receive the results. Should there be an unexpected issue with the results, I would of course refund you the cost of testing.
FYI - Two of our 2023 season kids were recently tested. CLEAN RESULTS.
